Ponie Curtis’ practice manifests itself as both 2D and 3D sculptural works, thinking about space both physically and digitally. Ponie works with original video, constructed digital space, and layering to create these dream-like, playful, otherworldly places. Considering the idea of a best before date, You are the life of any party delves into the ambiguous yet affirming prophecies and ‘lucky numbers’ found in fortune cookies, offering refreshing guidance for when we find ourselves past our use-by date, expired into a stale condition in need of purpose and self-belief. Whilst exploring the way we locate truths in serendipitously blurred messages, the work simultaneously contemplates the best before dates of these notes, examining their undisclosed duration and context but also the value we decide to place upon them.
