Born in China, Siying Zhou is an interdisciplinary artist. In her installation works, the unique aesthetics lies in between the multiple technologies and media that she brings together to present and discuss one subject. Zhou focuses on subjects such as the religious practice and cultural traditions in the life of the nomad, identity of individuals within the culture of globalization, the intricate relationship between the land and its dwellers and the correlation of physical and imaginary spaces.
Currently based in Melbourne Zhou has exhibited nationally and internationally. Her solo exhibitions include Consequences of Success, 2015, Food Court inc, Melbourne; The Comforting Promise, 2014, Northern Centre for Contemporary Art, Darwin. Her work has also been included in group exhibitions: Both Sides of Street, 2015, Counihan Gallery, Melbourne; Innovators, 2014, Linden New Art, Melbourne; Testing Ground, a touring exhibition from 2013 – 2014, curated by Julie Gough; Here and There, Art from Northern Australia, Jogja Gallery, Yogyakarta, Indonesia / Nan Giese Gallery, Charles Darwin University.
Zhou has received National Gallery of Victoria Woman Association Award at the graduation of Master of Contemporary Art at Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), The University of Melbourne in 2015. She is currently a candidate of Master of Fine Art at VCA.
