Fragments

Saskia Scott

05 August 2017–26 August 2017

A personal exploration of loss that draws directly on Saskia’s own experiences following the death of her mother in 2011, ‘Fragments’ captures both the physiological experience of grief and individual mourning in contemporary Australian society.

Presenting a very personal experience of catharsis, ‘Fragments’ follows a technique of dipping clothing items into black porcelain slip and firing the result so only clay remains. A process that closely mirrors that of cremation, each piece is hung or laid flat, referencing the absence of body and highlighting its loss.
