MOULD COLONIES

Mark Friedlander

Front Gallery
4 Feb 2017–25 Feb 2017
Opening 12.00am 1 Jan 1970

3 distinct objects: Monster, Cherry and Tongue

3 distinct spaces: Modern Hallway, Cherry Tree (Mountain) and Upside Down Yurt

REPRODUCE AND POPULATE!

Over the course of MOULD COLONIES, the objects, Monster, Cherry and Tongue, will be reproduced from moulds and their offspring will be brought in to share three different structures, the Modern Hallway, the Cherry Tree and the Upside-Down Yurt.

MOULD COLONIES examines the complexity of reproduction and the display of art objects. What happens when the ubiquitous process of mould making is carried out over and over again? What will be revealed in the super-abundance of the object; and how does an object’s display effect its reading?

  • Mark Friedlander is a Melbourne-based artist with an interest in materials and the complexity of artistic process. Mark has a Bachelor of Fine Art (Hons) (UK), a Graduate Diploma of Education (Art and Art History) and a Master of Fine Arts (Visual Art) (VCA). www.markfriedlander.com.au
