Running with a knife

Latifa Elmrini

17 June 2021–10 July 2021

We run with a knife .. at first slowly then pick up speed .. they practice violence slowly .. we will not be forgotten silently .. they follow us with their eyes .. with greasy thumbs pin on us preconceived ideas .. only now that we are in possession of the goods .. our bodies cannot be touched ********* only now that we’ve become gunmetal .. we’ve become weapon

..  depart from a simple idea .. tether to a disappearing territory .. on the border of extinction these pieces of a nation are broken off easily .. made to be thrown around .. dejected or enjoyed in the .. company .. of others .. made to be adored .. broken.. embody an idea that cannot be physically destroyed ..

..  I bear witness to the disappearance of land, P******** leaves behind it a trail of facts, figure s, d o n a t i o n w e b s i t e s , p h o t o s , v i d e o s ,  s p e e c h e s ,  r a  l  l  i  e  s  ,   s   t   o     r     i     e      s    ,     n   e   w   s    a   r   t   I   c   l   e   s    ,        p        a        n        e       l         s ,    b o o k l I s t s , d o n a t I o n w e b s I t e s , b      o          y           c           o          t           s              ,                b                            o                                          m                       b                              i                                         n                                       g                                         s

  • Latifa Elmrini is a multidisciplinary artist, writer and researcher. Latifa practices interrogations on cultural stereotyping, racism and islamophobia. Latifa’s research centres on historic memory through the analysis of patterns in language, images and archival texts. She is interested in the role that storytelling can play in the reversal of the Orientalized, colonial and imperialistic gaze by the reclaiming of ownership by groups and minorities that have historically been cast out as Other.
