Kathryn Sawyer is an early career artist born in Brisbane in 1987. Upon completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2008 Sawyer received the Griffith University Gertrude Langer award for community leadership. In 2009 she was awarded first class honours in Fine Art from the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University. Since then Sawyer has exhibited in numerous local and international exhibitions, including in 2014, CNTRL+SHIFt+SPACE, Inhouse ARI, Brisbane and A Knife // A Torch, Hold Art Space, Brisbane. In 2013 she showed in Addition 6 for Addition Artist Run Initiative, Brisbane; Sawyer was Artist in Residence in Nes Listamiðstöð Artist Residency in skagaströnd, Iceland and exhibited there with Rauði frystiklefinn á Skuffugarðinum, Skagaströnd Iceland and Opens, Freezing Room, Nes Artist Residency, also in Skagaströnd Iceland. In 2012 while on residency Sawyer exhibited in 3 Tonnes, in the Sanda Institution of Art and Design, Hygo Prefecture, Japan and とんとん, Gallery Tsukiyo to Syonen, Hommachi, Osaka City, Japan. In 2011 she exhibited in the Existence Festival, Exist ARI, Powerhouse, Brisbane; Your Universe—Brisbane City, Brisbane Festival, Powerhouse, Brisbane; On the Grid, Contemporary Artisan’s Collective, Brisbane; Under the Radar, Out the Back, Metro Arts, Brisbane and Present, LEVEL Artist Run Initiative, Brisbane. During 2010 she was selected for Hatched at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Art and worked in a studio with Level ARI. Her work is held in the Griffith University Art Collection, the Mackay Regional Gallery Art Collection and private collections in Australia and overseas.
