Nick Walters

Nick Walters is a queer multidisciplinary performance maker, blurring the boundaries between dance, physical theatre and visual art forms. His artistic practice explores the gendered body in performance, deconstructing socio-political isotopes in search of a new enlightenment, while remaining Lynchian in tone.

Nick has received funding from the Australia Council for the Arts, London Borough of Waltham Forest, City of Greater Geelong among others and has presented works across Europe, the UK, USA and Australasia. Most recently Nick headlined the Cultural Program for LGBT History Month at London’s William Morris Gallery and completed a queer performance mentorship with Salon Outré UK.

On Physical Practice:
His physical practice manifests itself in the form of the violent politicised body, through durational tasks, endurance feats, masochistic rituals, and the use of a striking visual language; shaping his environment and physical movement to create a multisensorial experience.

On Sculpture:
Nick employs the concrete medium sculpted in the style of ‘Béton Brut’, rough cut and cast in Portland cement reinforced with welded wire fabric. He deliberately leaves the surface unadorned and structurally exposed, the imprint of the formwork and its imperfections remaining etched into the surface.
