Auto Salon

Basil Papoutsidis

27 November 2015–19 December 2015

Auto Salon by Basil Papoutsidis explores masculine identity, and the differences between the theoretical language of architecture and the realities of construction.

Using the masculine platform of the ‘man cave’ or male sanctuary, Auto-Salon will transform KINGS Artist-Run into a garage ‘showroom’, or sacred male retreat. Within this environment Basil uses the principals of Modernist and Formal Abstraction specifically in reference to the works of Tony Smith and Anthony Caro to display freestanding sculptures, constructed in materials such as steel, unadorned concrete, PVC, plaster, and timber with custom industrial finishes. These structures act as ‘Vehicles’ encapsulating a new understanding of architectural prose and classic automotive principals.
