The UFO Knowledge Association, 1986 – 1994

Charlie Donaldson

26 October 2019–16 November 2019

In early 2019 the artist purchased a storage locker located in the outer Brisbane suburb of Underwood. Inside, they found a trove of information related to a UFO awareness group known as the UFO Knowledge Association that appeared to have been active from 1986 to 1994. Their activities included art therapy for alien abductees and witnesses, scientific testing, UFO hunting, and frequent recruiting for new members. Collected here is Charlie Donaldson’s extensive and meticulous archival research and cataloguing of the information contained inside the locker. Donaldson has corroborated much of the evidence with material borrowed from Australian archival institutions such as the Queensland State Archives, National Library and the Queensland State Library. By using the materials loaned from these archives combined with the contents of the locker, Donaldson investigates a curious period in the history of the late Bjelke-Petersen era of Brisbane.
