Pith & seed explores the degree to which creative practitioners incorporate their inherited cultural traditions in their process. This exhibition features responsive artworks which incorporate foodstuffs and ephemeral materials, reflecting on nourishment as a core quality of all human traditions, and the transient and moveable nature of such. The featured artists occupy manifold perspectives on a supposed scale of “neutral” – “traditional”, finding themselves directly, subtly, inadvertently, or negligibly incorporating this quality. Pith and Seed thus dances with the complexities of self-identification through artistic practice and cultural reproduction more broadly.
