Beauty and The West is a tableau setup that resembles spaces commonly associated with the beauty industry. Within the setup, a combination of handmade and ready-made installations stand in as the female body to stridently comment on celebrity pop culture and the beauty industry of today.

  • Majed Fayad uses video, photographic montage and sculptural practice to address popular western culture’s use of eastern culture, asserting the notion that “culture is for sale”.
  • Natalie Philipatos reconfigures objects from their fixed symbolic role and purpose, into a new state of existence and way at looking at the seemingly familiar. Cutting, stretching, slamming, pushing and pulling are merely a few methods used to assert a complex power relationship between herself and the object.
