Considering a personal past using family memorabilia, specifically on her mother’s side. Pippett responds to items, offers visual links, engaging with a personal history. Altering and playing with memories has led Pippett to create new and interchangeable ways of viewing these past events.
Responding to a final photograph of her Great-Grandmother surrounded by family, Pippett re- creates the scene, drawing on subtle elements of performance and illusion. Creating an understanding of the individual, the exhibition performs a summoning of action and memory. Dušičky or ‘All Saints’ Day’ is the Czech day of remembering the departed, derived from Roman Catholic origins.
