The Furthest Corners was inspired by the recorded meditations of friends. As a form of correspondence these recordings raise questions pertaining to the organisation of information and the translation of embodied experience. This short film was an attempt to encourage the surfacing of the preconscious, to let an opaque logic that is both associative and intuitive inform its content and structure.
Documenting sensations and textures that do not necessarily translate through verbal or text-based communication was one measure. An automatic writing exercise that revealed more about a particular emotional state than it does about the context and production of the images was the second. In combining the two, the intention is not to determine a specific reading of the images but rather to register the inexplicable dissonance between external and internal realities. Filmed in the Alentejo region of Portugal.
