Previously Screened: Walking With Head Down

Callan Skimin

15 May 2020–28 May 2020

An online exhibition only available during the above dates. Visit our Current Screening page for the latest artist.

Seeing extends out through the camera and memory is gathered mechanically by hand. Walking With Head Down by Callan Skimin is a work in ten chapters exploring the bond between camera and self. Dreams, memory and language passing through the one aperture; every day the little cinema.

Birth
William Hart-Smith, 1972

I cannot resist now and then being born
into the dark world of Theatre.

I like to settle down in my seat
and watch event succeed event

on a two-dimensional sheet.
I like to let myself identify

with all the happenings that sequence by
and then get up and die into the Street.

  • Callan Skimin's practice centres on the moving image as a plastic, malleable form of language; the gathering of material and the personal archive are foundations of his work. Callan completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at RMIT in 2018 and has exhibited work across Melbourne as well as in Seattle, London and Ho Chi Minh City. He is a part of the artist collective TEMA and is based in Castlemaine on Dja Dja Wurrung land. Webs: https://calskimin.wixsite.com/callanskiminart Instagra: @Callan_s_art
