Product Development explores the entanglement of female bodies and objects. Engaging with the aesthetics of the cyborg, the work relates to Donna Haraway’s articulations of the destabilisation of fixed identity categories through critique and reimagination. Object and subject are blurred; products and female figures become less distinct, for better or worse. Incorporating video and sculptural elements, the work considers how commodification, technology, fashion, consumer devices and online commentary can both contribute to and complicate self-image and identity. The multiple figures and objects within the work emerge within a landscape of hyper-visibility, surveillance, exchange, corporate control and commodity fetishism.
