A disembodied finger, floating mid-air

Olivia Guardiani
Sean Peoples

11 November 2021–27 November 2021

A visual illusion that is seen when the forefingers of each hand are held horizontally about 30 centimetres in front of the eyes, with the fingertips touching and the gaze focused on a point in the distance, and the fingertips are then drawn apart about one centimetre. A disembodied finger appears floating in mid-air, and it can be lengthened or shortened by varying the distance between the fingertips (see exhibition).

  • Olivia Guardiani graduated from The Victorian College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Honours in 2024. She considers the delicate balance between the permanence of objects and the temporary state of the human form. Through the process of casting and mould-making techniques, her sculptures unveil augmented and futuristic symbols that embody a promiscuous materiality.
  • Sean Peoples graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts with a Bachelor in Fine Art in 2006. He has exhibited in Australia, USA, Spain, France, Germany and India. In addition to his solo practice, Sean is also one half of The Telepathy Project, a collaboration formed in 2005 with artist Veronica Kent. He is represented by STATION.
