HARDWARD is a collaboration between two young Melbourne artists, Aimee Howard and Brodie Wood, who have created a space that alludes to preconceived ideas of function. Using sculpture and video as their forms, both artists explore ideas of functionality and practicality. Brodie creates works that suggest function yet they’re inanimate. She employs simple visual cues and design principles to indicate usability. Aimeeʼs work gives action to inanimate objects, creating scenes that teeter on the edge of collapse. The juxtaposition of Aimee’s clearly handmade installations, against the factory finish of Brodie’s pieces encourages the viewer to reflect on how they read and relate to everyday objects.
