4Spells

Tom Rogers

30 May 2024–30 June 2024

Partially set in a CGI medieval town (Fremantle) and an unnamed Modern Place (Not Particularly Important or Relevant To The Story), 4Spells considers art production, the internet, and Australia’s post-irony landscape.

This short film also serves to document the creation of 4 magick sigils which are made especially potent by the remix of two particularly hustle culture laden interviews by Playboi Carti’s videographer Joy Divizn and balanced by Georgia Martin’s sage and patient advice. The Joy Divizn interviews were arranged physically by hand in a cut and paste style, adding a further laborious element where Rogers could consider the Spells at hand.

Invited to participate in the sigil’s ritual and power through the medium of video, viewers help charge the spells anew with each time the video is watched.

This video sigil was made in collaboration with Georgia Martin and with help from David West, Leonie Brialey, Ben Aguero, Jill Rogers, Olivia Odonnel, Ellen Broadhurst and Darlene Aaron.
