Imbued with both humour and discomfort, On The Nose pokes fun at the way seductive consumer goods are so effortlessly likened to romance. Through combining the thematic and stylistic structures of both a traditional air freshener commercial and a cliché love story, the film eliminates distinctions between these two states of desire, whereby the enchanting sensation of falling for someone is merely equal to the hazy glow Air Wick casts upon artificial fragrances. On The Nose gently critiques the advertisements that promise false escapes from quotidian bleakness, allowing us as viewers to laugh at ourselves and the alluring schemes that we too at times, helplessly fall for.
